Driving directions to and trail map for White Rock Nature Preserve

February 28, 2012 clifftop White Rock

The parking area for White Rock Nature Preserve is located off of Bluff Road about two miles south of original Valmeyer. From Route 3 in Waterloo, take Highway 156 west, all the way down Dennis Hollow. Once in original Valmeyer, watch for the sign for “Bluff Road South” (Mitchell St.) and turn south. Drive about about two miles south on Bluff Road South and look for the road sign marked “White Rock Nature Preserve.” The parking area is on the east side of Bluff Road. Directions to the White Rock Nature Preserve trail head and rules of use for the preserve are on large signs in the parking area. The two miles of non-looping trail offers moderate to strenuous hiking. White Rock Nature Preserve is open daily from dawn to dusk for passive recreational use. Hikers must stay on the trails; hazardous conditions may exist within the Preserve, and staying on the trails helps prevent damage to plants, and to the fragile hill prairie and glade areas. Staying on trails also helps reduce your exposure to biting and stinging insects and to plants, such as poison ivy and stinging nettle, that may cause allergic reactions.
